hotel near west cork model railway village

Take a step back in time to the 1940’s and visit one of West Corks leading tourists’ attractions, The Model Village in picturesque Clonakilty. Located an hour’s drive or 60 km from the Clayton Hotel Silver Springs this replica of the original West Cork Railway offers an amazing real-like insight into daily life a few decades ago.

The attraction features an immense outdoor re-creation of the West Cork Railway as it was in the 1940’s, with fantastic handmade miniature models of the main towns in West Cork including Kinsale and Bandon. Visit the indoor interpretive room which relay the story of the railway towns and the local inhabitants who worked on the lines. Sit back and relax in one of the delightful tea room carriages and let the kids enjoy either the indoor soft play area or outdoor jungle gym.

The “Choo Choo” road train departs from the village on a 20-minute guided circuit of the famed Irish heritage town of Clonakilty. The on road train will bring you down narrow lanes of Clonakilty and show you fantastic views of lovely lakes and colourful houses.

Opening Times

Clonakilty Railway Village is opened daily from 11.00am – 5.00pm. The times of the “Choo Choo” tour vary.
